The EXPO2020 World Expo in Dubai ran from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 and was the first exhibition of its kind in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region. Once the exhibition was over, the process of its transformation into an anthropocentric city of the future began. The entire exhibition was divided into three sections centred around the main pavilions: Sustainability, Mobility, Opportunity. In the middle there was the covered Al Wasl square, which united the three districts. Right next to it was located the spectacular United Arab Emirates pavilion with a kinetic canopy designed by Santiago Calatrava. The Terra Sustainability Pavilion was designed by Grimshaw Architects and met the requirements for LEED platinum certification. The aim of the project was to show humanity's connection to nature, the obsession with excessive consumerism and how we can change our daily choices to reduce our carbon footprint and environmental impact. 4,912 solar panels were installed on the roof of the building and on 18 structures called Energy Trees by the authors, generating 4GWh of electricity. Innovative irrigation techniques, including a grey water recycling system, were used to irrigate plants and cool the facility's surroundings, reducing water consumption by 75%. The Alif Mobility Pavilion, designed by Foster and Partners, demonstrates how the way we move has driven the development of civilisation since the dawn of time and shows a vision of the resulting future transformations in terms of the way we live, the development of knowledge of other cultures, methods of communication, the exchange of experiences and ideas that change the world. The pavilion is based on the smart city concept using artificial intelligence, big data, robotics, machine learning and autonomous transport. The Mission Possible - Opportunity pavilion was realised according to a design by AGi Architects. The building was dedicated to the opportunities created by the power of the human mind and the determination of individuals striving for positive change in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the focus is on ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring peace and prosperity for all by 2030. Among many interesting buildings, the Austrian pavilion designed by the Querkraft studio, the Belgian pavilion by Vincent Callebaut, the British pavilion designed by Es Devlin Studio, the Italian pavilion by CRA, Italo Rota, Matteo Gatto and F&M Ingegneria deserved special attention. The Japanese pavilion by NAGAYAMA Yuko/NTT FACILITIES, the Luxembourg pavilion by the Metaform group, the Singapore pavilion by WOHA, the Polish pavilion by the WXCA group and the US pavilion by Woods Bagot were equally interesting.
