Description The study investigated the influence of additional seat overlays designed to improve comfort such as headrest pads, lumbar supports and seat cushions on passenger biomechanics and kinematics during crash events. Experiments were carried out at the Vehicle Dynamics and Safety Laboratory of Wrocław University of Science and Technology using a sled test rig that generated crash pulses between 8g and 32g. A Hybrid III 50th percentile crash test dummy was seated on the tested seats. Baseline tests with standard seats were compared against configurations with different overlays including headrest variants HS1 HS2 HS3 seat cushions AS1 AS3 AS4 and lumbar supports LS1 LS3 LS4. The experimental program was divided into two scenarios: frontal impacts performed at 10 g 20 g and 30 g and rear impacts performed at 10 g 15 g and 20 g. A planned experimental design DOE approach was used to assess how these modifications altered passenger motion and stability. The deposited dataset includes the raw biomechanical signal files that were downsampled from 15 kHz to 1 kHz to facilitate processing and the photographic documentation of the overlays, which has been archived as a compressed RAR package in the institutional research repository of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology as supplementary research data.
